We’re back once again with our regular round up of EMR and healthcare IT related tweets. We’ve got some really important topics in this post. Some that are incredibly challenging and will be really interesting to watch over time. In fact, all three topics are really intriguing.

I hope we don’t see a whole bunch more patent lawsuits in the EHR world. I don’t know the details of this specific lawsuit, but I’m sad to hear that patent lawsuits are coming to EHR. I’ll start a draft to do a much larger post on EMR software patents. I’m really against software patents at all. They are so ridiculous and they are a pain in the side of tech innovation. More on that in the future.

I think this subtitle describes the article well, “EHRs remain stuck in the pre-Internet age and dominated by entrenched vendors, according to recent New England Journal of Medicine commentary.” As most of you know, I think the worst unintended side effect of meaningful use has been that it largely killed EHR innovation.

I loved the discussion that Nicole started. It links to a post by Katherine Rourke about the use of social media in an EHR implementation. I think this could very well be a future trend. Particularly if you expand the meaningful of social media beyond the consumer social media. Remember that the true power of social media is in connecting people and sharing info. Both of those are universal.
