It’s time for a Fun Friday blog post. We don’t do it every Friday, but it’s fun to do on occasion. Our most popular Fun Fridays are whenever we feature the slightly funnier than placebo ZDoggMD. If you haven’t seen his videos, then you’re missing out. There are a ton of incredible ones. Today we’re going to highlight his latest parody of Flo Rida’s song Low. About a third the way into the video ZDoggMD really cranks it up and brings so many laughs.

I love how ZDoggMD is incorporating more and more doctors, nurses, and patients into his videos. I’m told they fly out to Las Vegas to take part in the tapings. Pretty cool. In the above video I also love the appearance of Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos. When he flashes the snapchat screen that says “I’m not sure what’s going on” it was the perfectly captured Tony Hsieh moment.

It’s always nice to bring a little humor to the challenges we face in healthcare.

Penn And Teller Do a Video Explaining Why Vaccinations Are So Valuable

Sometimes it takes 2 magicians to explain something so that America understands an important health issue (Yes, that sentence doesn’t feel right, but check out the video anyway). In this case, it’s Penn and Teller explaining why vaccinations are so valuable and every child/person should get them. (Note: There’s a bit of vulgar language)

The power of a well done video is amazing (See also this doctor who raps). At the NAB conference this week I heard someone talking about virtual reality and they made this incredible point. A producer creating a video on a 2D screen can make you want to watch the video. The point being that it’s the content that matters much more than the screen. Sure, a nice big screen or virtual reality is great, but it’s the content that really matters. We’re going to learn a lot about this as more and more healthcare videos are created.

We’ve regularly written about physician burnout and physicians’ frustration with EHR software. It’s a real issue that needs to be dealt with on so many levels. So, it seems appropriate for this Fun Friday post to share a video ZDoggMD posted from the Wisconsin Med Society where ZDoggMD pulls out a live performance of a Hard Doc’s Life. Enjoy the video below:

If you like creative online video education, you’ll enjoy this Katy Perry “Roar” parody by ZDoggMD. Ok, it might not be all that educational, but it’s pretty hilarious. I think we all have someone in our life with this problem it seems. So, I’m sure that many of you will relate. Enjoy the video embedded below.

Taylor Swift “Blank Space” Parody by ZDoggMD

It’s Friday on Super Bowl weekend, so I thought we’d do a Fun Friday post. If you’re looking for fun, where better to look than ZDoggMD? In case you don’t know him, his recent Taylor Swift parody video might be a good intro:

I thought this comment by Christina Padrutt on YouTube describes many of the physician and nurse reactions I’ve seen to ZDoggMD’s work:

I absolutely LOVED this. It is a genuine reflection of the issue of drug seeking patient behavior. I can relate so closely to this. I have shown it to many coworkers. I even emailed it to my boss, who in turn forwarded it to other administrators. I actually loved how you show both sides of the story: the provider and a glimpse at the patient’s struggles as well. This is INDEED a real issue. In fact, it is such an issue that our unit is having a “burnout, difficult patient populations, and patient abuse towards staff” inservice to help staff cope. Thank you, Dr. Damania for this comic relief! Also, I would like to add that at least physicians get to spend limited time with this population, nurses are anchored to this behavior for 12-16 hours at a time at the bedside.

I’m thinking about inviting him to speak at the Health IT Marketing and PR Conference. What do you think? I can’t decide. Now that I signed up for him to be my doctor at Turntable Health, I guess that makes me biased.

Either way, have a great (and safe) Super Bowl weekend!

Darth Vader Diagnosis

The creativity of humans will never cease to amaze me. Here’s a good example from a tweet from the Exponential Medicine conference:

I think I’ve seen ZDoggMD reference some of the clinical issues of Darth Vader before as well. I’m honestly not sure what value this has to your work, but it gave me a good laugh, so I thought you might enjoy a laugh too.

Well, it seems like this is the week of the Wrecking Ball Healthcare Parodies. In case you missed it, yesterday I posted the Nuesoft Wrecking Ball Parody on EMR and HIPAA. Today I came across another healthcare parody of Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball by none other than the incomparable ZDoggMD. Check out ZDoggMD’s version embedded below:
