EMR Integration with PACS Software

Today I got the announcement from SRSsoft that they have integrated their EMR software with the Medstrat PACS software. As I think about it, I’m a little surprised that I haven’t seen more integrations with PACS software. Is this because most doctors wouldn’t really use this? I know that SRSsoft does a lot of work with orthopedics and related specialties where PACS is essential. I’d love to hear what other things are happening with PACS and EMR integration.

  • Integration with PACS is common and not very helpful. At one of my jobs, the Soarian system integrates with PACS for imaging at any terminal. The problem is the desktops have less RAM than my cell phone and it’s a workflow crisis to look at an image through the EMR. Much better to use the higher definition and faster dedicated PACS computer. My limited understanding is PACS images are relatively easy to interface through HL7.

  • Its the next thing that would differentiate EHRs; yes, John, we are in the process of integrating CVIS (Cardio Vascular Information System) from Lumedx with our EHR; and also working with GE to integrate their ultra sound with our OB module. Things are getting there – surely but steadily……………..
