Today, I came across this PDF file which was called “The Consumer Platform for Health IT.” Here’s the first paragraph:
Members of the Consumer Partnership for eHealth (CPeH) have been working for more than five years to advance patient-centered, consumer-focused health IT (information technology). We believe our nation is at a pivotal moment for transforming our health care system with the support of better information. This platform outlines a vision for how health IT can help patients, and how consumer groups can work alongside other stakeholders to improve health outcomes.
To be honest, I know nothing about the CPeH organization. I think that’s the actual problem. I’ve been working in healthcare IT and very active in the community of engagement consumers in healthcare for 5+ years myself and I’ve never heard of them. Unfortunately, it seems that CPeH has spent far too much time focused on creating a lengthy PDF of their vision and not enough time actually engaging consumers and producing results.
Although, I guess many might argue that I’ve spent too much time engaging with doctors, patients and other healthcare IT stakeholders and could spend more time on my vision. I’ll take that imbalance any day.
